Weight conversions between metric and imperial are similarly fixed by international agreement, though — unlike length — they involve slightly less "clean" numbers, which is part of why manual weight conversions are more error-prone than length conversions.
Why metric-to-imperial conversions are rarely round numbers
The metric system is built on powers of 10 (1 km = 1,000 m = 100,000 cm), which makes conversions within the metric system trivial — just shift a decimal point. Imperial units, by contrast, evolved historically from inconsistent regional standards (12 inches to a foot, 3 feet to a yard, 5,280 feet to a mile), so there's no clean mathematical relationship between the two systems.
