Open a Word document and get clean HTML or plain text from it, with headings, lists, tables, links and images kept. You can preview the result, copy it, download it, or save it as a PDF from the print dialog. Your document stays on your device.

A .docx file is a zip package of XML files. The tool opens that package in your browser, reads the structure of the document, and writes it back out as semantic HTML: real headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, links, bold and italic text, and images. Because it converts the meaning of the document rather than its exact look, the HTML is small and easy to reuse in a website, a CMS or an email.
The HTML is cleaned before you see it: scripts and unsafe links are removed, and only a short list of ordinary tags and attributes is kept.
| Converted | Not converted |
|---|---|
| Headings, paragraphs and line breaks | Fonts, font sizes and colours |
| Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough | Page size, margins and columns |
| Bulleted and numbered lists | Headers, footers and page numbers |
| Tables | Text boxes, shapes and charts |
| Links, footnotes and endnotes | Comments and tracked changes |
| Embedded pictures | Equations and embedded objects |
If your document depends on exact page layout, use the Save as PDF button, which opens the print dialog so you can choose Save as PDF as the destination. The result follows the clean layout shown in the preview, not Word’s original page design.
Microsoft Word was first released in 1983. For almost twenty-five years its documents were stored in a closed binary .doc format that was hard for other programs to read correctly. With Word 2007 Microsoft switched to .docx, based on the Office Open XML format that Ecma International published as ECMA-376 in 2006 and that ISO adopted in 2008.
Since .docx is a zip file of readable XML, programs other than Word can open it. Converters like this one map Word’s styles to HTML elements, which is a common way to publish documents on the web without the heavy, messy markup that exporting directly from Word tends to produce.
How do I convert a Word document to HTML? Choose your .docx file. The tool converts it immediately, shows a preview, and lets you download the HTML file or copy the HTML code.
Can I get plain text from a Word document? Yes. Switch to the Plain text view to read the text, then copy it or download it as a .txt file.
Does it keep images, tables and lists? Yes. Pictures are embedded in the HTML, and tables and bulleted or numbered lists keep their structure. Turn off Include images if you want a smaller file.
Can I convert a DOCX file to PDF? Use the Save as PDF button. It opens your browser’s print dialog, where you choose Save as PDF as the printer. The PDF follows the converted layout rather than the exact page design from Word.
Why does the converted page look different from Word? The converter keeps the structure of your document, such as headings, lists and tables, but not fonts, colours, page margins, headers or text boxes. This is what makes the HTML clean and reusable.
Does it work with old .doc files? No, only .docx files. Open an old .doc in Word, choose Save As, pick the .docx format, and then convert it here.
Is my document uploaded? No. The file is read and converted entirely in your browser, so confidential documents stay on your device.
